Since 1988, China Chamber of International Commerce (CCOIC) Shanghai Chamber of Commerce and China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Shanghai Sub-Council had been listed as the same organization. In March 2003, “Chamber of International Commerce Shanghai ” (COIC Shanghai) was registered in accordance with “Regulations of Registration for Non-government Organizations”. COIC Shanghai is a comprehensive, non-governmental, non-profit social organization with legal person status, composed of representatives from relevant enterprises, public institutions and economic associations, which are engaged in international business activities, and it is a group member of CCOIC.
COIC Shanghai is sponsored by enterprises, in accordance with laws, regulations and policies of the People's Republic of China and international practices as well, to safeguard legitimate rights of its members, to boost fair trade and to promote two-way investment.
COIC Shanghai enhances the international competitiveness of its member enterprises with its professional services in the field of policy and legal consultation, commercial and trade information, exhibitions，organizing trade mission, personnel training, publishing books and magazines, international exchanges and cooperation, safeguarding legitimate rights of enterprises, promoting fair trade, and facilitates the social and economic development of Shanghai and the Yangtze River Delta.
Up till now, COIC Shanghai possesses more than 2300 members with over 110,000 member companies and has built good relationship with about 80 Sister Chambers all over the world.
